  • THE BEER
The Fork & Brewer has forty taps on our giant barrel and even more bottles in the fridges.

The world likes beer. All up, we drink over 150 billion litres a year though it is fair to say a lot of that is pretty ordinary beer at best. New Zealander’s have long liked a pint though since the seventies we have been progressively drinking less beer but enjoying better beer. Overall, that is probably a very good thing.

Beer is an incredibly versatile product with an astounding array of colours, aromas, flavours, and finishes. The Fork & Brewer has forty taps on our giant barrel and even more bottles in the fridges.

Our beers are a deliberately broad selection including mainstream, craft and micro-brews, mainly New Zealand products but with a scattering of the best from the rest of the world. We are also proud offer a growing range of beers brewed right on the premises in our shiny brewery.

From cloudy German-style wheat beers to bright golden Pilsners to fragrant hoppy pales to dark decadent stouts, the Fork & Brewer has a beer for pretty much everyone.

As the old saying goes, "we fear no beer".

  • THE BREWER
His beers and ciders have won multiple awards at major beer shows. He's even been called a "bit of a brewing rock star."

Wellington's Fork & Brewer brewpub was delighted to announce Kelly Ryan as our new brewer in mid 2014. Ryan is a talented and highly regarded brewer with experience working around New Zealand and the United Kingdom. His beers and ciders have won multiple awards at major beer shows. He's even been called a "bit of a brewing rock star."

A big fan of the brewpub concept where beer is made right on the premises, Ryan says he is excited to be making beer in the heart of Wellington, looking forward to producing beers which get customers excited, and pleased to working with people as passionate about craft beer as he is. Despite his youthful good looks, Kelly has a distinguished brewing history with stints at Tui/DB, Fyne Ales (UK), Thornbridge (UK), Epic Brewing Company and the Good George brewpub in Hamilton.

Ryan says he loves Wellington and the Wellington beer scene because "it's where it is all happening." His first challenge will be keeping up the quality of the existing Fork beers such as Base Jumper APA and Bohemian Hipster Pilsner while also introducing his own recipes and creations. Ryan wants to make beers which “create a bit of a buzz."

Director Colin Mallon says the Fork & Brewer team are proud to have been able to attract a brewer of Ryan's calibre. "Kelly is an outstanding brewer and we are thrilled to have him on board. He will bring expertise, experience and creativity to our 1,000 litre on-site micro-brewery. An in-house brewery means our beers only travel metres from tank to tap. This is a key feature of the Fork & Brewer as a craft beer destination."

  • THE BREWERY
At the Fork & Brewer, We love making beer right in front of you.

The brewery bubbling away in the corner was designed in New Zealand and constructed in China during 2011. It was custom built for the Fork & Brewer and allows our team to brew around 1,000 litres of fresh, beautiful beer at a time.

Overseeing the development and installation was experienced brewer Dion Page (ex-Tuatara Brewery) while our brewer is the exciting Lester Dunn (ex-Mac’s on the Waterfront). Drinkers can expect a growing number of regular Fork & Brewer beers as well as special collaboration brews with visiting brewers, seasonal beers and special occasion offerings.

Our very first Fork & Brewer beers were the Gold Medal Famous Golden Ale and the Base Isolator APA. You can also look out for a pilsner and a pale ale made with a cool new hop variety. Tuatara icon Carl Vasta has already been in to brew, with other high-profile brewers such as Luke Nicholas of Epic signed up to have a go.

Fork & Brewer allows everyone to test the adage that "beer is best drunk in the shadow of the brewery". After all, you can see the brewery from most seats in the house. Forget about food miles, these beers are travelling mere metres to reach you – it does not get fresher than that.

Be sure to keep an eye on the News section of this website for the latest about what’s brewing right here.
