Beervana Media Brew: Jelly AnTipodean Raspberry Vanilla Chocolate Stout Launch

Forget new-fangled flags. The people have spoken. And they want - nay, insist - on new-fangled, flag-inspired beers. Thankfully for them, our Beervana Media Brew flag-inspired beer, Jelly AnTipodean, answered their call (unlike indulgent PMs with pre-determined flag design options) winning the Media Brew People's Choice, and selling out at Beervana last August. The "one solitary 50 litre keg in the existence of humankind" is going on tap at Fork & Brewer this week. The 6.7% Raspberry Vanilla Chocolate Stout was a "CollaboNation" between Kelly and his old school chum/TV3 Political Editor, Patrick Gower, and inspired by the Jelly Tip...

West Coast IPA Challenge – The Flower Arranger

It struck us about a week or so back, that we hadn’t sufficiently made a big enough fuss about the fact that Fork Brewing took home the bronze at Malthouse's West Coast IPA Challenge with Kelly's 6.5% The Flower Arranger. We decided it's not wholly inappropriate to continue lauding this feat, as The Flower Arranger is currently pouring on tap at Fork & Brewer to much ovation and bravos. As Malty blogger/cosmically prolific craft beer scribe, Neil Miller explains, "The unusual, some would say silly, name is apparently a reference to hop flowers and not to Kelly's former career before...

Pitch Fork Bretted Saison Launch

Once upon a time in a land far away there lived a brewer who often came up with whimsical ideas. He teamed up with a certain Lonely Planet travel writer, by the name of Brett Atkinson, in the year of Our Yeast Two Thousand and Fourteen and they hatched a devious beer, inspired by the Season of Spring and to be served at the Festival of Champions known as Beervana. As collaborators, their muse was the delicate and delightful Belgian Saison style. They hunted the lands for the finest of citrus fruit, for it was to be zested. They foraged...

Comic Con – The Battle of Five Craft Beers: Tea Is For Terminus

When beer geeks and your garden variety comic geeks collide, you get a little rolling get-together like the Battle of Five Craft Beers craft crawl, part of this year's line-up of Comic Con Welly events. Kelly's geek-themed Comic Con beer, Tea Is For Terminus, a 6.1% Belgian Saison, siphoned its inspiration from Brewhui beer blogger and up-until-recently closeted comic swot, Jason Gurney, who is a bit of a Walking Dead fan. Having previously written about Kelly on Brewhui (for his penultimate piece, no less), Jason has recently given his blog a bit of a reboot - now with more podcast!! These...

Rangipur Double India Stout Launch

When you get three bolshy brewers together you get a big bolshy beer. This Thursday, Fork and Brewer is whipping out a big, hoppy stout inspired by India Pale Ales, our very own 9.3% Double India Stout. Jammed full of Amarillo and Columbus in the kettle and then smashed with Amarillo, Simcoe, Cascade and Comet in the dry hop, this was a collaborative brew with Renaissance Brewing and Liberty Brewing. A couple of moons back, Renaissance head brewer, Matt Dainty, got in touch with Kelly via the national brewers party line, and asked if he was keen to pop down to the 'Heim and collaborate...

Devil’s Fork Old School IPA Launch

No self-respecting devil is complete without his fork. So this month, we're leading those forsaking Dry July into temptation with our latest release, Devil's Fork, a 6.4% Old School IPA, which is a bit of a collaborative riff between Kelly and Bill Covaleski (founder and brewmaster of Victory Brewing in Philadelphia) on Victory's well-loved and highly renowned, HopDevil IPA.  Via the international brewers' party line, Kelly was tipped off that Bill was heading to NZ and had been recommended to drop into the Craft Beer Capital, check out NZ Hops and catch up with our very own Kel. German-trained Bill...

Black Star Rating Black IPA Launch

American Black Ales, Cascadian Dark Ales - call them what you will, but Mother Nature's current seasonal oeuvre of still, dark days with dash of wild weather on the side calls for a Black IPA which reflects the diverse elements of a Wellington winter. Ours goes by the name of Black Star Rating in a nod to the capital's own adrenaline-inducing aerodome, which sees its notoriety ascend thanks to some cavalier weather. Lots of hops, subtle yet noticeable malt, and with an ABV of 6.2%, it's only slightly less dangerous than flying into our own Black Star Rated airport. (Coincidentally,...

Colorado Colourado Red IPA Launch

On Wednesday the 6th of May from 5pm, we'll be officially launching our latest brew "Colorado Colourado". Colorado Colourado is a Red IPA (6.5%), and is a collaboration with Doug Odell from Odell brewing Company in the USA. The name is a dig at the different spelling of the word "colour" in the states, so it's quite fitting that Odell Brewing is in Colorado! If you check out the beer poster, the mountain is the Maroon Bells in Colorado and it's reflection underneath is the mountain by the Moke Lake in Queenstown. This collaboration brew saw our own Kelly Ryan...

Yoghurt & Bruesli Launch

Head up to F&B on Wednesday the 22nd from 5pm for the launch of "Yoghurt & Bruesli" - an 8.0% Multigrain Sour Ale fermented with Brettanomyces. What would a Belgian brewer have for breakfast? Probably just a bit of toast, but the random imaginings of our brewer has resulted in this unusual answer of a beer. A combination of crunchy grains in the form of barley, wheat, rye, oats, maize and spelt produced a wort that underwent a 40 hour souring with yoghurt bacteria.Next up this was fermented with two strains of Brettanomyces bruxellensis, a Belgian yeast known for it’s big...
